A Powerful Basketball Tradition Shines Brighter
Few dynasties in the world of college athletics are as powerful as that of Michigan State basketball. As an elite NCAA program, the Spartans know what it means to perform on the biggest stage, under the brightest lights the country has to offer. Those lights will shine even brighter, as Michigan State’s famed Breslin Center now features an innovative new system using an LED light source.
This isn’t the first time Michigan State has turned to Musco for new lighting solutions for its athletic programs. In 2013, Musco retrofitted Michigan State’s Munn Ice Arena—home to the Spartan hockey teams—with its LED system. For the Breslin Center, the new LED lights are part of the University’s continuing efforts to increase energy efficiency. And that’s exactly what Musco’s LED lighting is designed to do, while making dramatic improvements in light control.
The new LEDs will provide a brighter, more evenly distributed light throughout the Breslin Center—reducing glare for the student-athletes and enhancing the overall experience of spectators. The system’s instant on/off and other capabilities will allow MSU to create special effects for player introductions. And the new lights will improve the quality of HD broadcasts for fans watching at home.
Above all, the LED system will drastically reduce energy consumption and operating costs. In fact, the Breslin Center should see a total annual energy savings of 74%.
“For nearly four decades, we have helped thousands of customers significantly reduce their energy consumption and provide a great experience for players and spectators. We're proud to once again provide an innovative lighting solution for Michigan State University at the Breslin Center.”
